When you use words like WOW or just give a general compliment, someone may offer that item to you. It's to show that you are more valuable than the item they have. Of course the polite thing to do is decline but in some cases you might end up making the person angry if you decline too. So when someone offers something to you, say something like "thank you but it looks nicer on you". Want to give a compliment? Say mashallah, say "May God increase your wealth".
