Gordon James Ramsay OBE, Michelin-starred celeb chef, media mogul, and entrepreneur is one of the most famous (and infamous) names on the planet. Love him or leave him, the celebrity chef has made a mark on the food world with his mega successful TV appearances, award-winning restaurants from France to Singapore, and expanding international media empire.
Behind the feisty onscreen personality, who is the real Gordon Ramsay? Born in Scotland, raised in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, Gordon initially trained as a professional football player. An injury prematurely knocked down his dreams of a football career so the young aspiring chef headed back to college to study hotel management. His career took off with training beside some of the biggest and brightest stars in the culinary field – Albert Roux, Marco Pierre White, and Guy Savoy.
In 1995, Gordon was awarded his first Michelin star as head chef of Aubergine in London and has racked up over 15 stars in total to date. Since then, he’s opened restaurants from London to Singapore, launched global partnerships with international brands, written bestselling books and received an Order of the British Empire (OBE) from Queen Elizabeth II.
Recently, Gordon Ramsay was in Doha for a brief visit to his restaurant Opal by Gordon Ramsay at the The St. Regis Doha. I was honoured to be invited for a brief ten-minute interview during his jam-packed schedule (which Gordon happily extended during our time) to find out about his successful career and his views on Doha. Plus, I was lucky enough to have Gordon create an exclusive recipe for MBG! Will the recipe appear on the Opal menu? You be the judge!
