Every week ILQ features a different Qatari startup in a segment called ‘Startup of the Week’. Qatar has some of the most creative, unique, and impactful startups in the region. We cover different startups across various industries in Doha, from fashion and beauty to food and dining, to health and education, and more! This week we’re highlighting Vend Station, a Qatari startup that provides students with easy access to stationery items at educational institutions around Qatar!

In need of a pen? Calculator? Highlighter? No need to pester your friends anymore! Vend Station is a local startup that provides vending machines with stationery for students in various educational institutions around Qatar. It has been established through Injaz Qatar’s program, where students from Qatar University conceived and developed the idea for Vend Station. It won first place for the best student company in the company program on a university level in Qatar.

“We offer essentials like pens, pencils, calculators, staples, markers and much more. The purpose of it is to make it easy and convenient for students and faculty to get a hold of these items when they need them or in case of student emergencies (forgetting a pen or a calculator for an exam),” said representatives from Vend Station.

The Vend Station team consists of six members from Qatar University, Aisha Mubarak Alkhaldi, Aisha Ibrahim Almuftah, Raya Abdulrahman Alqahtani, Fatima Ibrahim Alderham, Laila Ali Akbar and Retaj Yousif Asheni. The team members were invited to attend INJAZ’s tenth anniversary and were honored by Sheikh Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Prime Minister and the Head of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulwahid Alhammadi for their efforts.

This unique startup also won incubation from Qatar Business Incubation Center (QBIC) through its Lean Startup Program. Currently, you can find Vend Station vending machines at Qatar University – College of Business and Economics (female), and at Qatar Foundation’s Student Center.

Vend Station plans to expand in the next three months to include four more locations, which are: the Community College of Qatar, College of North Atlantic, Qatar University – Arts and Science College, and the Qatar National Library. Vend Station also have screens attached to display ads as a support for students or alumnus who have small businesses running.
