Dress code government sector employees working hours doha

The Peninsula newspaper reported on 24 June 2024 that the office of the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs in Qatar issued Circular no. 13 for the year 2024 outlining the appropriate dress code to be implemented by employees of Ministries, other government agencies, and public bodies. This allows the institutions to maintain uniformity during work hours and official events.

The dress code for Qatari employees is as follows:

Qatari male employees

  • Qatari male employees are to wear the traditional Qatari thobe, a ghutra, and an eqal
  • The Qatari thobe and bisht to be worn during the Summer when attending official occasions and events will be as follows:
    • Morning period: white
    • Midday period: blonde
    • Evening period: black
  • The winter bisht may be worn for events between the period of 1 December to 1 April.

Qatari female employees

  • Qatari female employees are to wear the traditional Qatari dress appropriately, which is an abaya and the head cover scarf.

The dress code for Non-Qatari employees is as follows:

  • Non-Qatari male employees are to wear a full formal dark-coloured suit, with a shirt and tie matching the colour of the suit.
  • Non-Qatari female employees are to wear women’s work suits in a manner befitting the work environment.

Dress code prohibitions

  • Sports shoes are prohibited, except due to medical reasons
  • Short or tight clothing is prohibited
  • Bright colours are prohibited
  • Make-up is to be worn appropriately
  • Chains or clothing with logos are prohibited
  • Inappropriate hairstyles are also to be avoided
