The Ministry of Interior has reiterated that holding passport of workers by companies is punishable act according to Labor Law. The officials of Ministry of Interior have advised workers to file their complains in this regard to the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs and not to the police.
The issue was raised yesterday by representatives of some communities during a seminar held by the Ministry of Interior at the Officers’ Club Auditorium at the Headquarters of Civil Defence.
The seminar held under the title ‘First Safety and Security Awareness Seminar for Community Leaders and Representatives’ was aimed to educate communities on the services on Unified Services Department.
A large number of expatriates representing India, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Pakistani and other countries attended the seminar and raised the problems and questions that their communities are facing.
The seminar was attended by First Lieutenant Nasser Saad Al Kaabi, Director of Mesaieed Services Center and Lieutenant Saeed Khater Al Kuwari from the Unified Services Department, who explained the transaction procedures that are accomplished through the centers and the various services the department provides. “The unified services department is continuously developing its various services to ensure that they are easily accessible to all citizens and residents,” said Lieutenant Saeed Khater Al Kuwari.
About the visas services provided by Unified Services Department, he said it is only family visas (visit visas), and its conditions are no-objection form letter from the employer, proof of the relationship, work contract while for visit visas for the family bank statement was not required but salary of the applicant should not be less than QR5,500.
For his part, First Lieutenant Nasser Saad Al Kaabi, Director of Mesaieed Services Center said that the centers offer the service like the change in profession, name or date of birth but at the same time it is unacceptable that people coming every other day seeking these changes as security protocols do not allow it. “Some cases can only done by the main office,” he added. He also urged the attendees to use Metrash 2 and to benefit from many services being provided through it.
Representatives of communities raised a number of questions. To a question about visas for friends, the officers replied that such visas were not allowed but intending people could apply for tourist visas. Another question was about the people who lost their ID while they are outside Qatar. In this case, the officers replied, the person will have to register a report for lost ID in his home country and will send the said report to Qatar for issuance of new ID paying the fine fee of QR500.
