People with sensory needs often find it overwhelming to cope with loud noises, bright lights and big crowds. Some public places in Qatar have sensory rooms to support people with sensory needs and help them decompress, regain control of their emotions and enjoy their surroundings.
A sensory room is a space designed to help people with sensory processing disorders or sensory needs, develop coping skills and regulate their brain’s response to stimuli.
The ILoveQatar.net (ILQ) team gives you a list of places with sensory rooms that you can explore. Check them out below.
The Muzn Lounge at Hamad International Airport is located between gates C7 and C9 and offers many sensory stimulants, such as light, smell, touch, and sound. According to Hamad International Airport, room usage depends on availability. You can type in the code “DPNA” when booking your flight with Qatar Airways or ask during the check-in process. A staff member will guide you towards the lounge during check-in.
The Qatar National Library has a dedicated Sensory Room for library members, which provides a range of stimuli for children with special needs. This room can help people with learning difficulties, sensory disorders, and developmental disabilities interact with their surroundings in a safe environment.
It is also available for children from 0 to 3 years to develop and engage their senses. Note that parents or caretakers should stay with the children at all times.
Please note that the Sensory Room will be unavailable for booking from 15 July to 15 August 2024.
The sensory room at the National Museum of Qatar is designed for visitors with sensory processing disorders. It features adaptable elements to suit their various needs. To access it, you can contact the museum's front desk.
