Tamim is his people, and his people are Tamim

To call Emre Süner, an 18-year-old Turkish artist living in Qatar, talented is an understatement. His work has taken years of practice and honing of skill to perfect. Süner is very popular for his hyper-realistic portraits of different celebrities, and has garnered a huge following on his Instagram account.

In light of the recent political crisis, Süner sketched an image of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to show his support and solidarity. He said, "...It is very uplifting to think about having two of your favorite countries, that you live in, just supporting each other."

Süner also shared a fond memory of having the honor to actually have met the Emir when he was at the Souq Waqif Art Center. "One day I was just drawing on my table and suddenly I look up and I just see him up there just standing in front of me... the first thing I did was... I got up, I just said As-Salaam-Alaikum and he said, Wa-Alaikum Salaam back."

Süner added that it was motivating for him as an artist to see the Emir at the art center, because it showed that he actually cared about the art scene.

The citizens of Qatar have been rallying behind their leader during the current GCC crisis, and one popular way of displaying their solidarity and patriotism is to proudly use the iconic image of Tamim Almajd, created by Qatari artist Ahmed AlMaadheed, as a symbol of strength.
