Axel Gasser Appointed General Manager of sbe’s Mondrian Doha

sbe, the leading global lifestyle hospitality company, announced the appointment of Axel Gasser as General Manager of the company’s first hotel in the Middle East, the recently opened Mondrian Doha.

Speaking on his appointment, Axel Gasser, General Manager of Mondrian Doha said: “I am delighted to be leading the opening team of this iconic property. Mondrian Doha is not simply a hotel but a destination in itself, a unique oasis of dreams meshed with the Qatari culture in its fabric. With my new role, I aim to establish a level of service that will exceed every guest’s expectation.”

A veteran in the hospitality space, Gasser joins Mondrian Doha from Starwood Hotels & Resorts where he was Complex General Manager at Westin Snowmass Resort in Colorado, USA. Prior to that, he spent four years in Miami as Managing Director of the Mayfair Hotel & Spa as well as Area General Manager of Jordache Hotels. Previous positions also include General Manager roles at ASI Hotels & Resorts in Austria, and various General Manager appointments with Marriott Hotels. His accomplishments include the relaunch of an iconic resort which later became one of the top hotels in Miami along with several successful new openings for both branded and independent high end luxury hotels. 

Gasser has an exceptional newly formed team beneath him with an Executive Committee made up of Duncan Gray, Hotel Manager; Mikel Ibrahim, Director of Sales and Marketing; Milad Badri, Director of Brand Experience; Simon John Winchester, Executive Chef and Sadbir Sharma, Director of Food and Beverage.

Located in the heart of the West Bay, the 270-room Mondrian Doha, is designed in collaboration with world-renowned Dutch designer Marcel Wanders, and Southwest Architecture. The property incorporates customised Marcel Wanders design features with influences from local patterns, ornate Arabic writing and historic souks.

Mondrian Doha features eight restaurants and bars, including CUT by Wolfgang Puck and Japanese Morimoto Doha by Masaharu. The hotel also boasts the world’s largest ESPA spa and a variety of stylish and unique options for meetings and special events including a 2,000 square-meter ballroom that can hold up to 1,500 guests.

Adding to its Middle Eastern footprint, sbe has plans to open two new properties in Dubai, United Arab Emirates including a Delano in 2018 and Mondrian in 2019, and is planning to introduce its SLS and Hyde brands to Doha, Qatar in 2020.
