THE soon-to-be-opened W Doha at West Bay incorporates features inspired by a traditional mosque. The hotel’s lobby showcases a melding of modern and time-honoured Qatari cultural elements with an Arabesque chandelier. The blue chandelier features 187 pendants in the middle of the triple-height living room and creates an ambience in tune with local culture. The hotel has been constructed in the shape of a giant ‘W’ and is the brainchild of United Designers, a leading London-based consultancy. It covers a total of 73,000sq m. United Designers is known for its distinctive hotels around the world including U2’s The Clarence Hotel in Dublin and the Metropolitan Hotel in London. The W Doha’s all-glass structure houses 291 rooms which include 31 W and WOW Suites and an additional 154 W luxury serviced residences. The W Hotel and Residences also offers 20 ‘Fabulous Rooms’ located in the corners of floors three through seven for an enhanced view of Arabian waters. “We make spaces for people to do business, to dine, to party, to relax, and to sleep. We invent brands for entrepreneurs, realise dreams for celebrities, negotiate with presidents, and counsel kings,” United Designers founder Keith Hobbs said. W Doha also features two signature restaurant offerings from renowned Michelin-rated chef Jean Georges Vongerichten. As with its other W locations around the world, W Doha offers the hotel’s exclusive Whatever/Whenever Service, instant access to premium 24-hour concierge service. This is W’s commitment to provide its guests with “whatever they want, whenever they want it, whether it be a pair of jogging shoes at 2am, last-minute dry cleaning or excursion or shopping arrangements,” an official said. W for wonder: Hotel strives to set example in hospitality The W Doha Hotel and Residences will have its soft opening on March 1, the hotel’s website stated. “The hotel is almost ready and it’s now fully equipped, but I can’t really say if we will definitely open on March 1. To be on the safe side, I will just say it will open in about two months’ time. Everything will be open by then, including the restaurants,” said Elise Zwein, account director of Action Qatar PR Group. Zwein, however, said there are already people occupying the residences. The restaurants are already fully equipped but “there is still no service.” Jean-Georges Vongerichten, who opened the Market and Spice Market restaurants, will attend the opening of the hotel, said Zwein. The W Doha Hotel and Residences will feature 291 guest rooms including 31 suites and 154 W Residences, signature restaurants, a poolside outdoor lounge, a crystal champagne bar, a Bliss Spa, event space and luxury retail space. W will have the following restaurants, Market by Jean-Georges, Spice Market, La Maison du Caviar, The Living Room, Crystal Lounge and Wahm. Market by Jean-Georges will offer guests modern dining set in a simple, elegant setting where they can enjoy fun appetizers such as Crunchy Squid with Chili-Lime Mayonnaise and Broiled Shrimp Salad with Champagne Vinaigrette and grown-up versions of favorites such as Black Truffle and Fontina Cheese Pizza, Grilled Prime Sirloin, Gingered Mushrooms and Caramel Soy-Infused Sauce. The restaurant will be open for breakfast from 6.30am to 11am, lunch will bes erved from 12 noon to 4pm and dinner from 6pm to midnight. The Spice Market restaurant is a timeless paean to Southeast Asian cuisine served in a stylish, casual atmosphere. The restaurant will offer curries and spices tweaked with a tantalizing effect in dishes like Charred Chili-Rubbed Beef Skewer with Thai Basil Dipping Sauce. The restaurant will open for lunch from 12 noon to 4pm and dinner will be served from 6pm to 1pm. La Maison du Caviar, a first in the Middle East, is the place for guests to enjoy the world’s best caviar, served simply with blini, on toast or accompanied by potato to truly appreciate the delicacy. The restaurant is open from 11am to 1 am. The Living Room is the perfect stop for a caffeine pick-me-up. The Living Room also serves light lunches, afternoon tea and nightcaps. W’s the Crystal Lounge is the place to go to for drinks, dancing and music. It is open from 5pm to 3am. Wahm is the hotel’s poolside lounge which offers delectable selection of Turkish and Lebanese mezze amid a splash of orange, burgundy, pink and yellow setting. The lounge is open from 12 noon to 1am.
