Team Qatar goes to Abu Dhabi Asian super cup
Posted December 13th, 2009 by AbuAmericanThe un-official team Qatar BJJ team has gone to Abu Dhabi and performed, in my opinion quite well.
Aqil, Pete, Mohammed H, Jamal and I went to Abu Dhabi over this past weekend and competed against teams from A.D., Jordan, Russia, Bahrain, Saudi, America, U.K. New Zealand and a few other places.
Although none of our guys made it to the second round I still hold the opinion that our team did very well. I say this because for the most part our guys actually performed better technically than their competitors. Jamal won his first round then went on to the second fight and lost by two points, in that time he dominated his opponent taking him from one submission position to anther. he nearly had his back then went on to nearly omopalata his opponent who was a whopping 20kg heavier than him.
Pete put a vicious arm bar on his first opponent and lost to points in his second round.
I my self completely dominated my first opponent and lost to points against the Asian Super cup holder in my second fight. I did not find his technical level up to his title.
The ultimates Jamal and Hafy beat their first competitors with Hafy being disqualified in his second match for doing a toe hold and Jamal having the unfortunate “luck” to be put up against Bahrain’s super child fighter who put a deadly arm bar on him. Pete tapped out his opponent and let him go but the ref either ignored the tap or didn’t see it and Pete ended up losing to points.
It was a learning experience and in the end we are going to come out with more experience and a better game to bring to the mat.
Talk is out locally about Kuwait later this moth and the ADCC worlds in April. Inshaallah we are going to have competitors from Qatar at all of these matches, ready to take anyone to task on t he mat.
Look out, we are on the move and we are gunning for gold!
